ABOUT THE TALK:

Dotting Kerala’s landscape, historic churches stand as testaments to a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences, where stone and spirit converge.

Architect Rakhi Mariam Johnson weaves a tale of Kerala’s historic churches where Baroque entwined with indigenous architecture, birthing a hybrid legacy. She’ll unveil the intricate ornamentation and detailing that define the unique character of Kerala’s Baroque churches.

 

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Rakhi Mariam Johnson is a conservation architect and an academician. She heads City Futures design collaborative- a multi-faceted architecture firm. She has been involved in many cultural heritage studies particularly Historic churches of Kerala and has published many articles and papers on heritage studies. She has been involved with ICOMOS-India and INTACH and has spearheaded its many heritage related activities. She is also a visiting faculty at KMEA College of Architecture, Cochin and is currently the design lead of second-year studio.
