The talk will deal with the entangled trajectories of environmental history and the histories of botany and medicine from premodernity to modernity. The talk seeks to disabuse the current reductionist thinking on the forest in environmental history and broaden the contours of forests in academic writing and beyond.
Dr. Malavika Binny is the Head of the Department and Assistant Professor at the Department of History, Kannur University. She earned her PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, on the topic “Bodies, Power, and Identities in Premodern Kerala.” Notably, she is the youngest member of the Executive Council of the Indian History Congress. Recognized for her scholarly contributions, Malavika Binny has been awarded numerous prizes and scholarships including the Erasmus Mundus Visiting Scholarship at The Leiden Institute of History, Leiden University, The Netherlands, as part of the Erasmus Mundus – IBIES Programme for the academic year 2014-2015. Malavika Binny has an extensive publication record and is a regular speaker at academic conferences and other public events.
